Jesus on Free From the Burden of Beauty

I mentioned this dialogue here. At the time I’d read two essays from young women about their lack of self esteem in high school. As a man and a father of girls I felt responsible. I’ve no doubt that my behaviour and or decisions I’ve made have contributed to undermining a girls/woman’s self esteem.

Aside from the personal responsibility it saddens me that teenage girls/boys struggle with identity and self worth. I don’t have an answer. Ninety percent of my clients are women and it’s rare to find someone who is happy with their body. The energy of healing sees everything as it is and not what we believe it to be. Everyone is beautiful.

When I work with spirit I don’t always have to ask a question. They know what I’ve been pondering. This is Jesus’ thoughts on the struggle with beauty. Jesus mentioned women because I was thinking about my daughters, but I believe his message is for everyone.

Women will never be free from the burden of beauty until they stop comparing themselves with each other. In this world there is the opportunity to be whatever you desire. Physical beauty is perception and conditioning and nothing more than an illusion. If you had no sight beauty would become obsolete. If you had no mirror or desire to groom you would be freed from self judgement.

In time you would see your neighbours as they are and not how they compare to you. Rid of the need and compulsion to compare, your bodies and features, for the first time, will be as they’ve been designed to be. A vessel for life, relaxed and spirited, rather than tense and posed.

Vanity and envy are cruel masters. See the strong and wise as examples of the potential that resides within all of us, but don’t overlook the greater potential of compassion and joy. Honour the truth.

Identify the gifts that you possess and don’t let apathy and habit dictate lack of contentment. You measure your worth on the proportions of your body, but resist healthy balance. You consume too much and excess has become a constant in your lives and not a seasonal blessing.

Jesus’ forceful delivery shocked me a little. I’d love to hear from you. How did this make you feel?
