Blog Appreciation Day: Straight From Hel

There’s something about the name Helen Ginger that makes me think about James Bond movies, and Emma Peel from the 1960’s TV series, The Avengers. “Ginger, Helen Ginger. I like my fiction shaken, not stirred.”

Helen is a freelance novel editor, with an informational and interactive blog for writers and a weekly e-newsletter that has been going out to subscribers around the globe for ten years. She is an owner-partner and Women’s Marketing Director for Legends In Our Own Minds®, which specializes in creative networking opportunities for companies and groups. ~ taken from Straight From Hel

If you’re searching for information on publishing and writing this is the place to visit. Helen’s done all the leg work, and Emma Peel’s legs look good in leather. Helen posts all the best snippets from publishing related articles, giving interested readers the chance to click on the links. Good stuff!

Helen also interviews authors, reviews books, and edits manuscripts. Everyone who visits the blog and comments is wonderful, and, hold onto your underpants! They support each other. How cool is that?

But the coolest thing of all is . . . Helen is a mermaid. A real live mermaid! I can’t even swim fifty metres and now I’ve found someone who knows Neptune. If you’re as excited as I am, visit Ginger, Helen Ginger, and ask to see her tail.

Disclaimer thingy: Helen didn’t teach me to swim, ghost write my memoirs, bribe me with muffins, or show me her tail (I wish she would), but she is one of the nicest people online I’ve met. Hang on, my phone’s ringing . . .

“Hello . . . Is this you Nathan Bransford? . . . Listen mate, you have to stop ringing . . . Yes, Helen Ginger’s on my blog this week . . . Crikey bloke, you get five thousand hits a day. I don’t know how I can help you . . . Oh, you want me to tell Helen you called . . . you’re a fan . . . okay . . . yes a smoking hot mermaid . . . sure. Talk next week . . . If you get a haircut I’ll think about it . . . Bye.”

Sorry about that folks. If you get a chance, visit Helen and say hi.

  2. Simon, you are very funny. I saw this yesterday, but was in transit coming home from a week-long conference and could read but not comment.

Good to know you're friends with Nathan, and close enough that you can tell him to get a haircut.

Seriously, I don't know what brought this post on, but it had me laughing in the L.A. airport. Thanks.

  3. Glad you featured Helen. Although we've not yet met in person, I consider her a good friend from all the years of "e-contact" we've had. She's a wonderful and talented woman who does great thing in and for the literary world as well as a fine blogger.
