Lift Your Game Australian Media—I’d rather be a Eunuch than Watch the News!

I turned on the television this morning to watch the news headlines on channel seven, and crikey, live breaking news! Has our prime minister’s plane crashed on a surprise visit to our troops in Afghanistan, has BP stopped the oil leak, has Japan stopped killing whales, after record breaking profits have the big banks reduced interest rates? Oh—Lindsay Lohan sentenced to 90 days in jail. Seriously, I don’t bloody care!

I walked away from the television. Ten minutes later, yep, more Lindsay: fake tears and lies. I’d rather castrate myself with a rusty butter knife than watch a celebrity and an overpaid lawyer role playing.

Is it any wonder the world’s the way it is?

Have we become that shallow that this is important news? I turned the television off, and I won’t be watching the morning news anymore.

I want news that informs and makes a difference to the world.

I’m going to read a book.

  1. Simon,
I don't have TV access on the boat, and after two years of no computer access we just got Wifi service so I may use the computer for my business...I usually do not carry my cell phone with me so that I may interact genuinely and interruption free while I am out and around..I do not have the latest and greatest technology..My children and I don't have access to regular commercials or devastating news, or pop culture shows, so we are never quite 'hip' but we do have full hearts and adventures, lots of time in nature, and peace filled joy filled lives..And we can all hold our own with dinner conversations--people often find our life "quaint" but seem to enjoy our stories...

  2. Simon, I totally agree! Just another spoiled celebrity who refuses to take responsibility. Ugh!

  3. My sentiment exactly. If it's not a celebrity crisis, then it's a celebrity telling us how we should think and vote. When did the news become more mindless than the entertainment shows I watch for pure fun?

    Books are definitely better.

  4. Yes, Joy, simplicity is heaven sent. I want to reach the world, but in a simple and honest way.

Julie and Patricia, I'm over celebrities and the media is an insidious beast that influences lazy people.

Yep, reading a book is better than TV. It keeps us creative too.

  5. Hey Simon,

I think what you're reply to Joy is about "Vibrational Marketing" which is an attraction not a promotion. It's attracting by joining of minds in love, honestly rather than the usual scarcity tactics and hooking with brand.

Love and honesty is the brand you're talking about.I think I'll join ya;) Now excuse me while I go make some changes on my sales page;)Keepin it honest. xo

  6. LOL...

Oh I so feel the same way! We have no TV anymore. We abandoned it in this move up north (well actually sold it, but either way, no more TV). But I do catch a glimpse of the headlines every now and again on the net and I almost fell off my chair when I saw that Lindsay Lohan made the "Breaking News" headline - I didn't even care to check for what. I was laughing and shaking my head much the same way, thinking, has the world gone insane?

Ah, but it is all good, we need this "little" stir to keep waking people up...
